HC Chapter 11: I Fear You (X)

This was a very suggestive sentence, and Dong Ci could already guess the outcome. She bit her lip, unwilling to believe his words, “I won’t cry, so tell me the results.”

“Hmm, you didn’t enter the top 30.”

Dong Ci felt as though she was suffocating, “There’s no report card, so why should I believe you?”

“How do you know that I don’t have it?” Jing Rong shook a paper in his hand, its sound going straight into the phone’s receiver. Then he deliberately asked, “Want to see it?”

“…”

“I’m going to a birthday party tomorrow, and I want you to go with me as my partner. When we meet tomorrow, I will tell you the real result.”

Dong Ci squeezed her phone tightly, and said through gritted teeth, “Can I refuse?”

“Tomorrow, I will send someone to pick you up. See you later.”

The phone disconnected.

Dong Ci’s good mood instantly vanished. She angrily threw the phone onto the bed and went to brush her hair, with Jing Rong’s words still spinning inside her mind.

Jing Rong must be lying to her. When she took the exam, she felt that most of the questions were answered correctly. How could she not be in the top 30?

Dong Ci tried to comfort herself with such thoughts, but that night she still had a nightmare. In the end, even if she never wished to see Jing Rong again, her tormented heart wanted to know the answer. So the next day, she went to see him.

This was her second visit to the mansion where he lived. Perhaps because it was on top of the mountain, she felt as though the wind there was colder than anywhere else. Even when she went inside, the warmth couldn’t reach her body.

“Put this on.”

Dong Ci opened the box that Jing Rong threw at her. After taking out the material inside, she discovered that it was a thin black dress. She frowned and threw the clothes back at him, coldly asking, “Are you trying to freeze me to death?”

Was there ever a person who dared to throw anything at him before?

Jing Rong frowned and pulled the dress off his body. He was about to teach her a lesson when her words registered inside his mind. He instantly laughed. Looking at Dong Ci’s serious face, he couldn’t help but step forward and kiss her.

“My family’s girl is so cute, would I be willing to freeze you?” he asked with a smile.

Dong Ci shoved him away without hesitation. Currently, the only thing on her mind was her grades. She stretched out her hand and demanded, “Show me my report card. I want to see it with my own eyes.”

“I won’t give it to you,” Jing Rong raised an eyebrow, not allowing her to push him away. The arc of his mouth began to lower, and his expression cooled down. “If I say that you didn’t enter the top 30, then it means that you didn’t enter. The result won’t change even if you look at your report card.”

“Then which place did I take?”

Jing Rong observed her with an unnerving smile, “Thirsty first.”

Dong Ci’s expression froze, while Jing Rong’s smile became more arrogant and cold.

“So close, isn’t it such a pity? But do you know, what’s more of a pity?”

The girl woodenly stared at him.

“Actually, you are only 0.5 points behind the 30th person.”

When Jing Rong returned to the bedroom, Dong Ci had already changed her clothes.

She was wearing a long black dress with the shawl of the same color wrapped around her shoulders. Sally helped her apply make-up, transforming her face into that of cold beauty. Her long eyelashes were deep black, while her lips were ruby red, with pink blush bringing slight warmth to her cheeks.

Dong Ci’s skin was naturally fair and transparent, and when she sat on the sofa without movement, she looked just like a delicate doll with a lost soul. Even when Jing Rong approached her, she didn’t look up.

“I didn’t know that you could still look so good.”

Jing Rong raised his chin, looking at the girl through half-lowered eyelashes. His black eyes were slightly narrowed with a trace of laziness as he observed her sitting there covered with a thick shawl.

“Do you still think that I want to freeze you?”

Dong Ci looked down at her bare toes peeking through the thin straps of her shoes, and coldly silenced him, “Do you think that I won’t feel cold just because I have some fur on my upper body?”

“…”

Jing Rong took a deep breath. He looked down at the delicate girl who only reached up to his chest, and there appeared sudden unknown anger in his heart.

“You have such a sharp tongue, really not afraid of me at all,” he said, grabbing Dong Ci’s waist and hugging her sideways. Looking at the girl’s panicked expression, he lightly added, “Aren’t you cold? Since the clothes aren’t warming you, then I will hold you without letting go on our way to the party.”

Dong Ci ignored him and tried to get away, but Jing Rong only held her closer, and the force of his arm on her waist increased.

“Don’t make trouble,” he coldly sneered.

His patience was originally very poor, and now he was no longer interested in playing games with her. Jing Rong gazed at the girl in his arms with a touch of indifference in his eyes. He was like a different person compared to before.

“I like obedient girls. Today, my mood was very good,” Jing Rong’s voice paused for a second as he licked his thin lips, his face getting closer to Dong Ci’s. “But from this moment on, you better not make me angry.”

One moment, he was smiling. The next moment, his expression could chill one down to the bones.

Dong Ci was the most accustomed to the way he laughed and teased – she almost forgot his true temper. Right now, she felt shocked by this teenager’s indifference. Her head lowered, not daring to speak any longer.

As soon as they went outside, Dong Ci’s body trembled with cold. She instinctively pressed herself against Jing Rong’s chest. When her mind caught up with her unconscious action, she wanted to lean away, but his hand prevented her.

The dress was so long that it covered her ankles, but the material was thin, so her legs still froze. By the time the car reached the destination, she couldn’t feel her toes.

“Wow, Xiao Ci is so beautiful today.”

As soon as they walked into the venue, Dong Ci saw An Chen Feng approaching them quickly. He was followed by a tall girl, who sneered when she heard the boy’s compliment. It was unclear, whether she was mocking him or Dong Ci.

This girl was the one who sat next to An Cheng Fen in the club’s private room last time. At that time, Dong Ci didn’t pay much attention to everyone, so she only remembered a few of Jing Rong’s closest friends.

The girl’s name was Yan Ning Shuang, and today was her birthday. This entire banquet was held for her.

She looked very proud and arrogant the entire time. Except for glancing for a few seconds at Dong Ci when An Cheng Feng praised her, Yan Ning Shuang never spared another look the other girl’s way. Dong Ci was like a transparent person in her eyes.

This was the second time…

Dong Ci lowered her head and chuckled to herself. She preferred being low-key and quiet, but ever since meeting Jing Rong, everything he did, and every place he took her to, made her feel disgusted. In the same way, she could see other people’s aversion to her.

Jing Rong knew that she was the most helpless in such a place, yet he seemed to deliberately ignore her. Just after they entered the venue, he disappeared somewhere – leaving her to stand in a corner. The lights were dim there, and few people came this way, but Dong Ci always felt as though someone was watching her. It made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

She looked around but didn’t notice anything unusual. In the end, she turned to the stairs and walked to the rooftop.

A violent wind rushed to her, instantly freezing her warm body. Dong Ci was reminded of what she was wearing and turned around to leave, only to discover someone standing behind her.

“Dong, Ci?”

Fu Wan Meng saw that Dong Ci noticed her, so she walked over to the other girl, swaggering in her high heels.

Wasn’t she cold?

Dong Ci observed the exposed legs coming closer, and seriously suspected that the other girl wasn’t human.

“Do you need something from me?” she asked apathetically in response to the other girl’s question. Dong Ci wasn’t familiar with this person, and she wasn’t interested in getting to know her. Besides, the hostility in the other girl’s eyes was so obvious – it was clear that she didn’t come here to make friends.

Even though Dong Ci usually gave other people a feeling of weakness, this time her mannerisms seemed to have changed. Fu Wan Meng frowned as she observed the shorter girl. She wasn’t polite with her, coldly saying, “Actually, I am curious. How come A’Rong is so fascinated by you?”

Turns out, this girl is hunting for a beauty…

Dong Ci smiled, her red lips hooking in the dim darkness.

“Since you are so curious, you should ask him.”

Fu Wan Meng’s expression froze, but her eyes were ready to spew out the fire. She was so used to being the most arrogant person around that she couldn’t imagine someone being prouder than her. She was about to jump over to pull at Dong Ci’s hair, but the other girl noticed her intentions beforehand and quickly retreated.

“You are just a little bitch! You think you can be arrogant just because you are A’Rong’s pet? When I, Fu Wan Meng, was together with him – you were nothing in my eyes!”

Dong Ci wasn’t used to wearing high heels but was forced to put them on today. Even before, her steps weren’t smooth, let alone when she was being attacked by a madwoman. She staggered back and almost twisted her foot.

She hurriedly leaned against the wall for support. In a brief moment of respite, she felt another presence and turned her head to find a woman standing beside the rooftop’s glass doors. Dong Ci didn’t know, how long she had been watching them, but when the woman noticed that she was found out, the corner of her mouth hooked up.

“Don’t make trouble at my birthday party,” Yan Ning Shuang stepped out of the darkness and walked in front of Dong Ci, blocking Fu Wan Meng’s outstretched hands.

“Cousin!” Fu Wan Meng frowned. She was about to say something, but Yan Ning Shuan turned her head to look behind her, and warned, “Jing Rong is about to come.”

It wasn’t clear whether the warning was said to Fu Wan Meng or Dong Ci, but both of them stopped arguing. Fu Wan Meng quickly adjusted her hairstyle, and as she passed by Dong Ci, she didn’t forget to provoke, “Little bitch, we will wait and see.”

When Dong Ci returned to the venue, her mood was already so bad that it couldn’t get worse. Not to mention being attacked for no reason, but she also stayed in the cold wind for such a long time.

When Jing Rong found her, she has already been standing in the corner for half an hour, her body still freezing cold. During that time, she had drunk a glass of wine to warm up, and her body carried a faint fruity smell, though her eyes were clear.

“When are you going to give me my report card?” Dong Ci asked, ignoring the purpose of his approach. Her moist eyes looked as though they were made of water as they watched him.

She still remembered this thing?

Jing Rong frowned slightly. Finally, he took out a crumpled paper ball from his pocket and impatiently stuffed it into her hands.

Boring…

His eyelids lowered slightly, his eyelashes casting a small shadow over his eyes, making the emotions inside difficult to discern. Jing Rong lazily leaned against a table, his fingers tapping on its surface. Perhaps, because of his unclear mood, the rhythm was rather chaotic.

Right now, he was a little tired. For a moment, he even lost interest in her.

Ta—

There was a quiet sound of water falling on paper. Jing Rong side-eyed the girl next to him and saw her body trembling. He looked at her a little closer and realized that she was crying.

This wasn’t the first time Jing Rong saw her tears. Almost every time they met, he made her cry deliberately.

But this time, the reason for the crying wasn’t clear.

He didn’t feel indifferent to her tears. Jing Rong stretched out his hand and took her into his arms. His fingers wiped the water droplets from her face as he lowered his head and asked, “Why are you crying?”

T/N: Phew, the ‘I Fear You’ part has finally come to an end with this chapter. Next up: ‘I Hate You’… Not much better, huh? Haha

  1. Thank you! I just don’t understand being cruel to someone you like! But that doesn’t stop me from wanting to read on 🙂

    Thank you!

    1. It’s because he’s so narcissistic. He can’t accept that he cares so much about someone so he’s trying to convince himself that he doesn’t like her that much.
