HC Chapter 32: I Don’t Love You (II)

Jing Rong held her tightly in his arms, as though trying to suppress his anger. The driver helped them open the door of the car. As soon as Dong Ci was placed into the car, she shrank into the corner – just like a frightened little bunny.

This time, she was really scared…

Jing Rong settled down not too far away from her. His neck was lazily stretched back as his entire body sunk into the comfortable backseat. One of his hands rose to unbutton the neckline.

Dong Ci warily stared his way, looking at his unsmiling thin lips, which were tightly pressed together. The current expression that his face was showing – it was intimidating.

“What are you looking at?” Jing Rong easily noticed Dong Ci’s covert glances.

The girl almost jumped in her seat as his voice rung out in the otherwise silent car. She bit her lip, unable to come up with an answer that would satisfy him, and looked down.

Jing Rong’s eyes narrowed slightly – there was a dark mist swirling in them.

“Are you afraid of me?” he asked, stretching his hand to pull the other person to his side. His gaze settled on Dong Ci’s red lips, which were rubbed raw by him earlier. He released a quiet sigh and simply pulled her into his embrace, his fingers lightly brushing against her mouth. “I remember warning you a long time ago – I don’t like it when other men get too close to you. Do you ever take any of my words seriously, hmm?”

The sound that he released at the end was low and full of charming danger. It enticed people to get closer to it while warning them of the impending misfortune if one got too close.

Dong Ci felt as though her lips were about to fall off – they were so hot and painful! From Jing Rong’s current behavior, it was clear that he wouldn’t be letting her go any time soon. After a few seconds of bearing with his light strokes against her mouth, she no longer cared about the consequences – she reached out her hand and grabbed his wrist, making it still in the middle of the motion.

This gesture alone earned her a long stare from Jing Rong’s chilly eyes.
Jing Rong looked at his wrist that was being held captive by her small hand. His mouth was smiling, but his gaze was telling a different story. It was only after Dong Ci slowly released his hand that his expression gradually warmed. He condescendingly patted her on the face and said, “Good.”

Dong Ci’s lips continued to be abused until she felt as though three layers of the surface flesh on them were rubbed off. When Jing Rong finally retrieved his hand, he still couldn’t resist threatening her with a few words:

“You should be grateful that you quickly pushed him away. If he touched you for a few more seconds…” trailing off, Jing Rong pinched Dong Ci’s chin and forcefully opened her mouth with his fingers, touching her pliant tongue. Feeling it grazing against his flesh, Jing Rong’s eyes slightly lowered as he coldly continued, “I wouldn’t be able to guarantee what punishment your little tongue would receive.”

Ever since Jing Rong became aware of the many suitors surrounding her at the university, he had been particularly concerned about her. As a result, he sent a few inconspicuous people to monitor her whenever she left his eyes, so he was naturally aware of the messy rumors surrounding Dong Ci.

The reason why he suddenly appeared on campus was to deal with this matter. Originally, he thought about going home with her after finishing up with this business, but he happened to see Shi Ze blocking her at the door.

One good thing about the incident was that Jing Rong could hear their conversation from the other side of the thin wall. This created an excellent opportunity for him to understand Dong Ci’s thoughts on this matter.

“Didn’t you always think that you were my mistress and I was some kind of a sugar daddy to you? Come here and sign this – whoever dares to talk this way to you in the future, I will help you deal with them.”

Yesterday after bringing her back, Jing Rong disappeared until noon the next day. When he once again showed up in front of her, it was with an armful of papers and a pen.

“What is this?”

The first document that Dong Ci scanned with her eyes was written in English – it was full of obscure legal terms, so she had trouble understanding it.

“It’s a good thing that will keep you worry-free for a lifetime.”

Noticing her hesitation, Jing Rong’s lips curled as his fingers casually tapped the surface of the table.

“Xiao Ci, have you forgotten that your whole person has already been sold to me?”

Dong Ci’s fingers whitened as the force with which she held the pen increased. She was still hesitating.

“Your mother is still in hospital. I heard that recently, her condition was getting worse…”

Jing Rong’s voice was faint, but the threat that his words expressed was obvious for all to hear.

Dong Ci almost snapped the pen in half with the force that she was holding it. Finally, disregarding all consequences, she moved it to sign her name in a blank space – stroke by stroke.

There were a lot of documents, and Dong Ci’s writing was slow. But Jing Rong’s patience reserve seemed to have tripled overnight because he just calmly watched her sign with an unperturbed smile on his face.

After getting through many papers written in a foreign language, Dong Ci finally noticed one that was full of Chinese writing. She carefully scanned through it, and for a second, she forgot to react.

“Why have you stopped?” Jing Rong asked, as though unaware of what caused her abnormal behavior. His eyebrows slightly rose as he softly coaxed, “Be a good girl and quickly sign everything – there are still a few papers left.”

“Jing Rong, are you aware of what’s written here?” Dong Ci raised her eyes with disbelief, an almost imperceptible tremor appearing in her voice as she asked this question. She read the characters on the paper several times before she confirmed that she didn’t imagine it.

‘Marriage Agreement’.

She was about to take the English version of the documents she just signed and reconfirm everything, but Jing Rong quickly stopped her. He was afraid that she would tear the papers up if he let her get them. He calmly took the documents into his hands and revealed a satisfied smile.

“Xiao Ci, you already agreed to relinquish the control of your future to me. You promised me.”

“But I never said anything about marrying you!” Dong Ci cried out, angrily throwing the pen to the ground. Her whole body trembled with anger. Abruptly, she stood up from the chair, causing it to fall backward, and rushed to leave the room.

“Stop!”

Jing Rong didn’t expect that Dong Ci’s reaction would be so intense. Because of this, his expression couldn’t help but get gloomy. He never rose from his chair, but coldly stared at Dong Ci’s back and warned, “Xiao Ci, don’t anger me.”

“What will happen if I do?”

Dong Ci looked back at him, her eyes looking at his figure from above. Although her position was higher, Jing Rong’s momentum hasn’t diminished in the slightest. He quietly raised his head to look at her – there was no emotion in his eyes.

“What would happen… Is it important? As long as I want, in the future, I can make you come to me begging, just like you did the first time.” He looked so cold as those words escaped his mouth, and even the sunshine coming through the window and lighting him up couldn’t soften his presence.

He was so good-looking, but why did he act like a villain?

Knowing that Dong Ci’s momentum was shaken, he continued with a smile, “Xiao Ci, what’s wrong with marrying me? I think that you should already be aware of what kind of person I am – if you refuse to marry me today, there is no way that I will let you marry someone else tomorrow.”

He was so domineering, and he never left her with a place of retreat. Dong Ci remembered all of the humiliation that he caused her to suffer. Those deliberately suppressed memories seemed to come out all at once.

“Jing Rong, do you love me?” she whispered, closing her eyes. Dong Ci knew that there was no way she would escape this fate, and a sense of powerlessness swept over her body.

“Love?” Jing Rong repeated with a small tilt of his head. “Xiao Ci, of course, I love you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t go through all this trouble just to make you stay by my side.”

“But if you loved me, you wouldn’t have continued forcing me at every turn.” Dong Ci slowly came back and leaned forward to pick up the pen from the ground. Then she calmly picked up the chair and sat down. “Actually, you are just not reconciled – because I don’t like you, you want to conquer me more and more. In the end, you feel that the best things are those that you can’t get!”

Shouting out the last words, Dong Ci wrote down her name in the blank space of the document, almost making it tear with the force she used. Then she picked up another and signed again – no longer caring about trying to discern what was written there.

After she signed the last paper, she pushed the finished stack to Jing Rong. Her lips were stretched into an ambiguous smile as she looked at him.

“Since it is said that what you can’t get is the best, what will happen if I take the initiative to get close to you? I hope that one day when you get tired of me, you will peacefully let me go.”

“It’s possible.”

The continuation of the second chapter: I Don‘t Love You (II)

It’s possible.

In her dreams, Dong Ci seemed to have once again heard Jing Rong’s ambiguous answer. Her breaths were quick as she constantly writhed in her sleep.

“Xiao Ci.”

When Dong Ci opened her eyes again, she saw herself laying in Jing Rong’s arms. He calmingly stroked her back, voice full of sleepiness – it was obvious that he was woken up by her restlessness.

“Have you had a nightmare?” Jing Rong asked. His eyes were straightforward as they gazed at the petite girl in his arms without blinking. He lifted her chin and deliberately lowered his voice to get the truth, “What did Xiao Ci dream about?”

“I dreamed of something that happened a long time ago.”

Her dream was so real that Dong Ci had an illusion of reliving the past. She gently bit her lip and looked up at the man’s handsome face. It matured from its youth, its features getting increasingly more sophisticated.

Suddenly, she discovered that they have been married for many years.

“Am I there, in Xiao Ci’s dreams?”

Seeing her staring at him in a daze, Jing Rong stroked her cheek. His dark eyes were calm as they stared at her without a trace of emotion in them.

“You are,” Dong Ci honestly answered. She thought for a moment, then added another sentence, “You are in all of my dreams.”

“My Xiao Ci is so good to me.” Jing Rong was satisfied with her reply. His thin lips pulled up an inch, a smile appearing on his face.

However, even though he was smiling, Dong Ci couldn’t discern whether he was happy.

The clock on the wall was ticking, and Dong Ci’s sleepiness came back. She looked at the dark sky outside the window and buried her face in Jing Rong’s arms.

It seemed that she was really tired because she quickly went back to her dreams. It took only a few seconds for the silence between them to descend before Jing Rong heard her even breathing. He leaned over and very softly kissed her on the cheek. In the end, he knew that he wouldn’t be able to go back to sleep, so he quietly got up and went to the balcony to smoke a cigarette.

The rain outside has stopped, but the atmosphere still felt damp. Jing Rong thought back to Dong Ci’s attempt to escape today – he almost lost his mind at the time.

Di di—

The phone on the bedside table slightly vibrated. Jing Rong uncaringly glanced at it, but when he found that it belonged to Dong Ci, he walked over and picked it up. After familiarly entering the password, he found that someone sent her a text message – it was from an unfamiliar number.

‘Xiao Ci, I am back home. Do you have time to meet?’

Jing Rong’s gaze slowly moved down. When he saw ‘Shi Ze’ written at the end, his expression suddenly turned gloomy.

“Shi Ze…”

Jing Rong slowly traced the name on the screen. The cold light coming from the phone hit his face, making his handsome features seem dim.

He seemed deep in thought, squinting his eyes and playing with the small phone in his hands. After a while, he slowly smiled and directly emptied the phone’s mailbox.

Ah, the trouble was driven away for now.

Jing Rong looked sideways at the petite girl peacefully sleeping on his bed. A flash of tenderness appeared in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced with chilling darkness.

It seems that he should once again closely monitor Dong Ci’s activities.

Last night they were tossing around in bed for too long. And then, in the middle of the night, she woke up feeling scared of her nightmare. Dong Ci couldn’t remember how she fell asleep again, and her mind was still chaotic when she was woken up in the morning by someone calling her name:

“Xiao Ci, wake up.”

Dong Ci opened her eyes with some difficulty, but after she saw the neatly dressed Jing Rong, the only response she gave was a faint ‘um’ before she once again fell asleep.

Jing Rong helplessly smiled. He lightly pinched her nose and pulled her out of the warm bed, softly coaxing, “Hey, get up and change clothes.”

“What are you doing!”

Forced to be awakened by Jing Rong, Dong Ci had no place to vent her anger. In the end, her small hand slapped Jing Rong in the face.

She was so sleepy and half-conscious, that she didn’t even realize what she has done. Her nose was released from his grip, so she just found a comfortable position in his arms and went back to the dreamland.

“When have you become unable to leave the bed?” Jing Rong’s gaze deepened, and after he took hold of her rebellious hand, he punishingly bit the fingertips with the tips of his teeth.

Ever since the two of them began to sleep in the same bed, he never actively called her to get up. Today, he didn’t expect that it would be so difficult to get the girl awake.

“Xiao Ci, wake up.”

There was still no response – Dong Ci’s eyes were tightly closed together. A dim light flashed through Jing Rong’s eyes. He put his hand in her collar and slid his fingers into her nightdress, stroking them against her bare skin. Then he leaned slightly, his thin lips coming close to her ears, and said in a low voice:

“Xiao Ci, if you don’t get up – I will change your clothes myself.”

T/N: I would like to clarify something. In my understanding, in this chapter, it is said that Dong Ci convinced herself that if she stays with Jing Rong, he will be bored and let her go on his own initiative. I doubt that she actually ever fell in love with him at this point in time. Also, everything that happened since chapter 2 until now should’ve been just a dream to her.
